Here are some of the things you might want to consider in order to design the ideal study room space for your room addition.
Location
The first thing you want to do is figure out where you want to place your study room. Though this blog focuses more on room additions, we would like to point out here that it is also possible to have a room respaced or remodeled.
Are you having a pre-existing room redone to serve as a study? Are you having a new room or space added to your home to serve as the same? If your answer to the latter is yes, figure out which part of the house you want your study located.
Take into consideration things like distance from noisier spaces within the home as well as access to the rest of the house.
Purpose
Narrowing the specifics of your study room is important. Just as you would design a bedroom differently for say a child and an adult, determining who the study room is going to be used by is important. Will it serve as a supplementary office space within the home? Is it more for use by the young ones? Does it need to be a common space, accessible to the whole family?
Answering these questions will help you determine the ideal design for the room you’re having added. It will also give you a good sense of woodwork and shelving requirements.
Layout
We’re all cut different and we all have personal preferences with regard to how we function best. What are your personal work/study space needs? Non-distraction? A little sunlight maybe? Soundproofing? Or an easy access door into the kitchen? These and more are good questions to ask yourself when working on the layout of your study room. Where does it open into? Is it connected with or separate from the house? What of windows? These personal design requirements can be incorporated into your final construction making for a more work-friendly environment.
Additionals
Last but not least you have your infrastructural bits and bobs. We’re talking electrical work, insulation, air conditioning and or heating if needed. If you’re going to be running computers or a projector for example, you want enough sockets to cover you!
